Education Heals!

What you know about immigrants is wrong

We here at the Truth Action Network are appalled at the current administration’s actions, and how right-wing media has chosen to cover them.

Fox News recently released a clip in which they rode along with I.C.E. as they rounded up individuals in the sanctuary city of Boston. Notice the rhetoric they use in this clip:

They note that many of these immigrants have been charged with crimes, not that they have been convicted. Some of the crimes these individuals have been charged with are heinous. However, being “charged” with a crime does not necessarily mean that you have committed it.

Being charged with a crime means that the government suspects you of having done something. These individuals are “innocent until proven guilty.”

Being convicted of a crime means that you have been found guilty of committing the crime in a court of law. This would indicate that there was enough evidence to “prove” that you have committed that crime.

In this case, many of these individuals were said to have been charged with a crime, yet were released by sanctuary jurisdiction.

Fox News would like the viewer to take these charges at face value and determine that these immigrants are criminals deserving of being deported.

We at the Truth Action Network encourage our readers to think critically. It is clear that labeling these individuals as criminals is all to justify the inhumane displacement of families in America. We need to be aware of these tactics to better comprehend the changes in the world around us.

This post will mark the addition of the “Resources for Immigrants” page on our website. If you or someone you know is in need, please pass these resources along.
